Is bariatric surgery a good idea?

7 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Absolutely yes!: Bariatric surgery has been determined by the national institutes of health to be the only way to lose 100 pounds and keep it off. The weight loss affects every organ system in a positive way, generally adding 20 good years to your life expectancy. It also resolves conditions like diabetes, reflux, hypertension, sleep apnea, arthritis or prevents them. The smartest decision you could make!

Do your homework : Bariatric surgery should be an option of last choice after all conservative options have been attempted (i am a busy bariattic surgeon). If your bmi is >35 with diabetes, HTN sleep apnea then bariatric surgery may be an option for you. Talk to your pmd and consider going to a free seminar to learn about bariatric surgery. Good luck.
