Many related concern: Hi nick111 i notice you have asked several questions that indicate concern about your breathing capacity. It seems that you are quite concerned. Therefore, it seems very important that you schedule an appointment with a physician, perhaps a breathing specialist (pulmonologist).

Singing lessons: Hyperventilation should strengthen the diaphragm unless you were consciously just trying to move your rib cage-which is a lot of work and concentration. The diaphragm is a smooth muscle and you have little or no control over it but perhaps a teacher that helps students with breathing techniques (singing) can help.
