A member asked:

Short of breath, chest got tight, hands, fingers and mouth/face tingled and tightened. paramedics said hyperventilation. what to do next?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Paper bag: To reverse hyperventilation rapidly, breathe into a paper bags (not plastic), making a tight seal around your mouth and nose. The idea is to re-breathe some of your own breath. Do this for 2-3 minutes and you should start to feel better. Continue if necessary, but not for more than 10 minutes at a time.
