The best current science says that eating dietary cholesterol is not a cause of heart disease. why do docs still insist on cutting back on eggs?

Don't know why!: It is interesting that dr john yudkin ("sweet and dangerous") showed that sugar was the cause of cardiovcascular disease, not cholesterol. The cholesterol story (though it plays a part but is not the cause) has been blown out of the water. The yolk of an egg contains all the material to crearte a chicken. My advice is that eggs are an excellent source of human nutritrion.

Not exactly....: Saturated fats are more atherogenic - blockage forming than cholesterol. Egg yolks are high in saturated fats. Egg whites are ok. Hope that helps.

Defensive medicine: I've noticed over the years that some advice is evidence-based, and other advice is simply given out of fear of lawsuits. "Didn't your doctor tell you not to eat eggs?" It's taken not just the joy but even the integrity out of much of doing general preventive medicine.
