How can type 2 diabetes affect your eyesight?

Retinopathy: Retinopathy is the cause of the eye related complication of diabetes. It occurs when because of high sugars new fragile blood vessels start to grow inside the eye in the retina and then these vessels bleed on a frequent basis . When they stop bleeding by themselves or by the laser surgery , this process can leave the scars inside the eyes eventually all these complication can lead to blindnes.

A few ways: Diabetes, whether it is type 1 or 2, can affect vision several ways: fluctuating blood sugars can cause the vision to blur in and out over days or weeks; dry eyes can develop which cause minute-to-minute vision changes; cataracts can develop, causing decreased vision and difficulty with glare; and the retina can develop bleeding, scarring and detachments, all of which cause permanent vision loss.

Diabetic Retinopathy: Diabetes is the leading cause of new blindness in working-age adults (age 20-74) diabetic retinopathy (diabetes eye disease) does not have symptoms until the late stages. Diabetic retinopathy is treated with glucose control by the patient and primary care provider and lasers to retina by a physician (ophthalmologist). Newer techniques such as Lucentis (ranibizumab) will hopefully will soon be available.
