Very Serious!: Herpes simplex is the virus that causes oral "fever blisters". It is highly contagious and can be transmitted to the eye or other mucosal surfaces ( ie vagina) with contact. If you think, or have been told you have it in the eye , this is an ophthalmologic emergency and you should see an ophthalmologist immediately as it can cause permanent scarring and blindness. Go see the doctor today!
