See EyeMD, vision: If there is any change in your vision and especially if there is any bruising around the eye or double vision, you should see an ophthalmologist right away. You may need a ct scan ot other xrays to see if there are any broken orbital bones. There can be late effects from an injury of this type, such as retinal detachment, secondary glaucoma, etc. Be sure to get your eye checked.

Safer than golf: Interestingly, baseball injuries are less likely to injure the actual eyeball than some other balls. Golf balls in particular cause severe trauma to the eye, because they are small enough to fit between the protective bones of the orbit, causing more direct trauma to the eye.
