A member asked:

What over-the-counter medicine can be used for treatment of scabies for body and furniture? what do they look like on your skin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

There are none: Scabies mites cannot be killed by over-the-counter meds. Prescriptions include: Permethrin cream 5%, crotamiton 10%, lindane 1%, sulfur ointment 5-10%, and oral ivernectin pills (off-label). The mites burrow under the skin, and look like small red raised bumps. Clothing and bedding from 2-3da before treatment should be washer in hot soapy water, dried in hot drier; or placed in airtight bag x 7da.
