A member asked:

My daughter has had head lice for almost a year now. we have tried numerous over the counter treatments including combing, vacuuming and washing linen in hot water. please advise if there is a stronger prescription medicine we could get?

Maybe: I would first have the condition confirmed by a doc. There are a variety of prescribed treatments available but if the kid has a scalp condition that mimics lice they will not help either.

See a doctor: There are some prescription medications that may be possible, but you would need to have her seen by a doctor first to confirm(possibly not lice). Also, should consider consulting with a specialist(not a doctor)who really works on getting all the nits(eggs)out. That is often the reason that this does not resolve with over the counter treatment. Also, look at possible reinfection from other children.
