Very unlikely: Complications can occur during any procedure or any anesthetic, but eye surgery and any associated anesthetic are both low risk regardless of the patient's medical problems. It would be extremely rare to have a major complication during eye surgery, especially if you are under the care of a board certified anesthesiologist and ophthalmologist.

< 1/200K cataract: If you mean cataracts? <1 in 200, 000. How many patients went to hospital post op from eye center in last 2 yrs. How many stay after at eye facility > two hours. This will give you an idea of the safety. Worse things than death happen. Avoid a facility with a rate of more than one per 2000 for any answer from above q's. How many get nausea? < 1 per 150 is good. Other surg? Very different #'s.

Very rare: It depends on the patient's health and type of anesthesia used. A cataract extracted using numbing eye drops has an extremely low chance of death. Retrobulbar block has very rare complications. Diving your car is probably more dangerous. General anesthesia depends most on the patient's health.

Unlikely: The risks of complications with eye surgery are low (especially death). Those who die under anesthesia (very very rare) are almost always very sick and near death prior to surgery.
