Prosthodontist: All general family restorative dentists are trained to do this type of care, and usually do it very well. Occasionally, because of the severity of the problem, or perhaps it is unusual in nature, your dentist may want to refer you on to a prosthodontist. Ask your dentist's advice.

General Dentist: An inlay or onlay is like a filling or partial crown, depending on how many surfaces of the tooth it covers and whether it also included coverage of the cusps of the tooth. A trained general dentist can perform these procedures and it is not a specialist procedure.

None: The is no official specialized field of dentistry for the placement of inlays and inlays. You want a dentist that is proficient in bonding all types of porcelain and composite restorations. If they have the experience and training they would be qualified to place these types of restorative options.

Prosthodontics: Inay and onlays are restorative dentistry. They are done by general dentists and prosthodontists. In addition, they can be fabricated in a lab or by cad-cam process. Cerec does a beautiful job in a single visit making them out of very strong porcelains.

General/Pros: A general dentist and prosthodontist do that work. It is a good alternative to standard fillings and onlays are in some cases great for someone he needs more than a filling but could do with less than a full crown. These procedures are not done as much as they once were but still valuable.

Maybe a cerec doc: It's always a good idea to ask your doctor how many of the particular procedure they have done. This does not ensure they are great at it, but practice and experience does lead to proficiency. Doctors with a cerec machine may have more experience prepping and designing inlays and onlays. The technology lends to doing them well.

Most do that: Almost every GP dentist does inlays and inlays and crowns etc. Ask your dentist if they do them. some might choose not to but I would be amazed since this is like the basics do our profession. If yours doesn't..ask for a referral. If you need an extensive number of said restorations you MIGHT need a specialist like a prosthodontist.

Inlays onlays: there is no specialty that is required to fabricate inlays or onlays. They are more conservative than crowns ( caps) . For best results, see a dentist that has taken hands on courses in fabricating these restorations.
