It is unlikely: It is unlikely for a thyroid nodule to cause pain and swelling. Pain/swelling in the midline front of the neck may represent thyroiditis, inflamed thyroid gland, or superinfected thyroglossal cyst. However, if you feel any lumps that are getting larger, or have been in your neck for longer than 2 weeks, see your doctor right away, as this can represent infected or possibly cancerous lymph nodes!
