Several options: Lymphedema is a term that is thrown around a lot but can either be primary, or related to other causes(secondary). The mainstay of therapy is identifying the cause, having manual lymphatic decompresson(massage), compression wraps, and compression pumps.

Lymphedema: Unfortunately, if you haven't had surgery and/or radiation, there is a very good chance that the cause of your lymphedema will be impossible to determine. If there is a treatable cause, it should be treated. Otherwise, the treatment is manual lymphatic drainage, compression stockings, decongestion exercises, weight loss (if needed), and intermittent pneumatic compression as dr. Proffitt said.

Options: The original mainstay treatments are physical therapy and compression devices. Now there is a new surgical technique that can improve a patient's symptoms. Vascularized lymph node transfer- is a microsurgical technique that transfers nodes to an affected area. http://blog.winniepalmerhospital.com/live-surgery-watch-drs-klein-lee-and-feiner-perform-vascular-lymph-node-transfer-vlntx/.
