A member asked:

I am diagnosed with pcos, why did my ob refer me to an endocrinologist?

Metabolic concerns: Pcos is associated with resistance to Insulin and therefore high risk for obesity, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and early heart disease. An endocrinologist is a good specialty to address this. Additionally, if you have hirsutism, an endocrinologist may be able to help manage this also.

Male hormone levels: Endocrinologists are hormone doctors and pcos is a disorder in which male hormone levels are typically higher than normal.
