Loction: Bone pain often concentrates in joint areas and is often felt deeper in the body. Muscle pains are usually more superficial. If you have been an avid runner for many years you may be getting some bone/ joint reactions that are the cause. Age, intensity of training, foot gear are also factors.

Bone vs. muscle pain: Muscle pain is far more common. It tends to cause pain during or after activity & is more likely to be affected by position. Bone pain feels deeper, more severe & may be constant. Tamoxifen can cause bone, joint or muscle pain. It is usually generalized or symmetric rather than just one joint. Runners can get bursitis or iliotibial band symptoms. Call your doctor if your symptoms worsen.
