Happens often: When you lose the blood clot, the bone and lining in the socket is no longer covered and protected. This is known as a "dry socket". See your oral surgeon for treatment of this. You will get almost instant relief. It will take a few weeks and a few dressing changes for this to heal to the point of comfort. It must now fill-in from the bottom up. Takes longer. Good luck.
