A member asked:

I had a blood test and 2 things were higher than the cutoff. in the urinalysis the urn total protein was 19.0 mg/dl and the urn red blood count was 10 hpf. any ideas on what this means?

Likely nothing.: Your protein is normal as it is <150 mg/dl. Your zrbc count is slightly higher at 10 versus normal of < 2-3 /hpf. There can be many reasons for this, like trauma or a stone or even malignancy. A catheter can do it also, but unless it is consistent and gets worse, it is likely non-specific, and should go away. If it doesn't, see your doctor for a complete work-up.

More info needed.: If you were having a period when the urinalysis was done, the red cells and protein could be explained by that. But not so fast! red cells are not normally seen in the urine at this amount, and neither is protein. Depending on your age and overall health, these finding could be early warning signs for important concerns like kidney disease or even a cancer. Find out the best next step for you!
