Overexaggerate?: I'm not sure who this "someone" is, but unless s/he is your supervisor or boss you really owe no explanation. Also, you cannot control what someone else thinks. If this is someone whose opinion you value you can have a discussion with him/her about the facts -- knowing that this may not change his/her opinion. You can also find more fulfilling things to do than worry about others' unkind comments.
