Many Factors: Many studies have examined this. Risk factors are elevated intraocular pressure, thin corneas, suspicious appearing optic nerves and positive family history. People of african descent may be more likely than others to develop glaucoma. The older you are, the greater the risk. The best way to determine your risk is to have a complete eye examination.

Genetics and age: The two largest factors contributing to the development of glaucoma are age and genetics. Other than that, trauma, steroid usage, anatomical conditions (narrow angles, pseudoexfoliation syndrome, pigmentary dispersion syndrome of the iris, cataracts), prior surgery, can all cause glaucoma. You need to be examined and discuss with an eye md.The biggest risk factor for glaucoma is genetics.
