Eye infected: A red eye with pain is typically infected. Most likely it's a viral infection of the top of the eye-the conjunctiva or a bacterial infection of the eyelid-a "stye." less likely causes are inflammation inside the eye (iritis or uveitis) or an acute glaucoma (high pressure in the eye). You need to see you eye doctor to make the correct diagnosis and receive the proper treatment.
