Possibilities: Fluid in the lungs can be due to a heart problem, but can also be due to lymphoma. If the fluid is around the lungs, called a pleural effusion, the fluid can be removed to help your father feel better, and to analyze the reason the fluid is accumulating. If it is in the lungs, other tests may be able to be done to determine the cause.
