A member asked:

Went to er for tachycardia, high dbp and palpitations. turned out tsh was 0.04. had raiu done, 24 total was 5.6%. does this signify hyperthyroidism?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes and no: Your sx and the low TSH are all consistent with hyperthyroidism. However, the low raiu indicates that your thyroid gland is not taking up iodine. This could be because of a recent large dose of iodine (such as with dye for ct scans), or an inflammation in the thyroid that caused thyroid hormone to be released, causing the sx and low TSH but not associated with ongoing excess hormone productio.
