High protein diets create an extra burden on the kidneys. There is no safe way to alter the amount of muscle mass to which you are genetically predisposed, other than strength training. You should be seeking quickness and agility first and foremost, and excess muscle mass will limit that. See your doctor for more specific recommendations.

Most protein supplements sold today are safe, with very few side effects other than minor intestinal changes (increased gas/flatulence) as long as you follow the instructions. As a guy, avoid soy based protein supplements. Most supplements that are in powder form use whey protein. This is fine unless you have gluten sensitivity. If you start developing diarrhea and stomach cramps then stop.
