Hole were tooth was: Dry sockets tend to form in smokers, those with poor oral hygiene, those who had their wisdom tooth removed, or those who use birth control pills. Please see your dentist who might clean the tooth socket, remove any debris from the hole, and then fill the socket with a medicated dressing or a special paste to promote healing.

A dry socket: Is when the blood clot in the socket doesn't form completely or is dislodged and the bone is now exposed. It is quite painful. Hope this helps.

Losing a clot: After the extraction, the clot must be established in the extraction socket to cover the bone in order for the granulation tissue to fill in. However, in the event of an infection, the clot is lost, the underlying bone is exposed, and thus termed dry socket.
