No: Log-term back issues following epidural block placement for labor and delivery are virtually non-existent. In the short term, and only rarely, is there back discomfort from minor muscle irritation.

No: Pregnancy causes postural changes in women that can give them back pain with or without pre existing back conditions. Epidurals are used by pain management specialists to treat back pain. Pregnancy also increases the laxity of ligaments and can exacerbate pre existing compression of nerves due to swelling. Being in stirrups and pushing with child birth also impact your lower back.
