It depends...: The vast majority of breast lumps are benign cysts. They often get larger before one's periods. They may disappear but often remain for years. A hard lump that continues to grow over time is cause for concern. Monthly breast self exams are wise so you can track any lumps. It is wise to consult your doctor but usually no need to treat. Check up.: If you have a lump in your breast, the first thing that happens is a good history and physical by your doctor. Should the lump be suspicious imaging is typically ordered with either a mammogram or an ultrasound. Based on the findings on the imaging a biopsy may be ordered at this time.
