Trust and respect: It is important to have a good physician and patient rapport and relationship. If you dont believe your doctor , you are entitled to have a second opinion. Look for another GI and discuss with the md. If there is no discussion regarding diet-please ask your md questions. Sometimes, they forgot or too busy or something else. Don;t hesitate to ask question. But, choose your doctor whom you can trust.

Yes but: May be the right thing, but never hurts in any important decision to get a second opinion from another gastroenterologist or perhaps a colon and rectal surgeon who might have a slightly different perspective on the problem. Any good and confident physician should welcome and not be offended by you getting a second opinion.
