Symptoms such as unexpected weight loss, stool changes, blood in stool, and decreased appetite should be evaluated in person with a primary care provider. They can do a thorough history and physical, trial some medication for the pain, order lab tests, and potentially refer to a gastrointestinal or other specialist.

This could be irritable bowel syndrome and not inflammatory bowel disease although weight loss of 15 lbs is concerning. Ask to be put on a cancellation list by the gastroenterologist's office. In the meantime follow a bland diet with no harsh roughage. Ask your primary care physician if he/she will prescribe an antispasmodic medication like dicyclomine taken 1/2 hour before meals. Drink water.
