Possibly years: Persons who are allergic to animal dander often report trouble with an apartment or a previously owned home that was contaminated with animal allergens several years prior. Through cleaning may need to include carpet removal in some situations.

Months at least: We know with cat dander that it takes at least 6 months with regular cleaning for the cat allergens levels to decrease in homes. It is probably similar for dogs and other furred critters.
