Afrin (oxymetazoline): Topical nasal decongestants are the best way to open a nasal cavity. Unfortunately, if these otc products are used more than 2 or three days in a row, you will experience "rebound" in which the nose swells closed when the medication is not present in the nose. This form of nasal addiction is called "rhinitis medicomentosa". The cure is stopping nasal decongestant use.

Consider Sudafed: An oral medication such as sudafed (pseudo ephedrine) is a nasal decongestant but should not be used if you have high blood pressure or an overactive thyroid.
