Phlebitis: Swollen painful leg veins are inflammed and may contain a clot which can grow and threaten a deep vein. See a doctor or vein specialist soon. Try anti-inflammatory and compression.

I would : Stress the importance for you to see the physician asap. You can have not just a superficial vein clot ( redness an a lump in the varicosity) but I am concerned you may have a deep vein clot too. You need stat a duplex imaging and possiobly a d-dimer blood test. Do not delay please!

Might be thrombosed: The description of a swollen and painful varicose vein sounds like a superficial vein thrombosis, and times this could be part of a deep vein thrombosis depending on the location of the clot and the extension of it to other adjacent veins. You should go to your doctor to be examined appropriately.
