Yes: Probably most important would be to stop smoking if you smoke. If you live with someone who smokes, encourage them to quit. Everyone with asthma should know their triggers and then you can take steps to avoid them. Triggers can include: cold weather, pet dander, perfume, colds, smoke, other airborne allergens, others. If you know your asthma is triggered by cats, for ex., take steps to avoid them.

It depends: The goal of asthma/allergy treatment is to live your life the way you want, without limitations from asthma. But you don't want to take tons of medications, either. An allergy evaluation helps you to identify your triggers, avoid those that you can, and treat the underlying allergic inflammation so you can better tolerate those you can't.
