Braces: The amount of time in braces depends on the case and the specific problem in hand. You definitely need to consult with an orthodontist. The average is about two years.

12-24 months: Depending on the crowding and the bite, performing orthodontics to straighten your teeth can take about a year. Room for the teeth needs to be gained, fangs pulled back in, and overlapped or rotated teeth need to be aligned. Braces or invisalign may be the answer. You do not want to move them too fast. See your dentist or orthodontist for a better time table.

1 1/2 to 2 Years: On average, it takes about a year and a half to two years with conventional wired braces to move the teeth into the correct position. Once the teeth have been re-positioned then usually a fixed or removable retainer is placed. Treatment time may be much shorter (11 or 12 months) if you are a candidate for invisalign braces.

Age related: Average time in braces for kids is 18 months. Same problem in adults takes 21-24 months to rx. The more acute the problems, the longer rx will take. Note that clear aligner rx takes as long if not longer than traditional braces, and is less than half as effective.
