I have yellow smelly liquid in my right ear & a cold. what could this discharge be?

Ear discharge: There are several possibilities. An infection in the outer ear canal could be the cause, but a cold doesn't usually cause this. For the drainage to be from the middle ear area, it would have to pass through or rupture the tympanic membrane that would be very painful. Colds can be complicated by a middle ear infection. You should call your doctor to be examined so you can receive proper care.

Infection: I agree with Dr. pizzo. You could have an external ear infection or a ruptured tympanic membrane with discharge from the middle ear. Either warrants medical evaluation.
