Ativan (lorazepam): It is anxiolytic medication of the benzodiazepine group. It reduces anxiety & relaxes muscles to an extent, but is not a hypnotic or sleep medicine.

Lorazepam: is an antianxiety medications. Although it may cause sedation in some - I would recommend avoiding getting into pattern of using benzodiazapines to sleep.
