Hysterectomy: A total hysterectomy and hysterectomy are the same. A supracervical hysterectomy means the cervix was left behind.

Good question: Total hysterectomy is a frequently misused term even by medical professionals. Hysterectomy refers only to the uterus; a total hysterectomy is removal of the entire uterus including cervix. It does not mean that the tubes and ovaries were also removed which is called salpingo-oopherectomy.
