A member asked:

If one of my saline breast implants popped, could it cause my period to not start?

Not likely: Saline is just salt water balanced with the normal body chemistry. It is used in medicine more than any other IV solution or medication. If your saline implant were to rupture all that would happen is the 100-300 ml of saline would be rapidly absorbed into the bodies blood stream. There should be no consequence of this. We often give 2-5000 ml of saline during a standard surgery.

Not directly: Indirectly the stress and worry of a ruptured implant may alter your menstrual cycle.

No: A leaking implant should not influence your menstrual cycle.

No.: Rupture of breast implants should not alter the menstrual cycle. Probably best to see your ob/gyn and/or check for pregnancy.

unlikely.: However the psychological stress and anxiety from experiencing the rupture of the implant may be causing a delay to your period. You may also consider a home pregnancy test if you are sexually active.

No: The saline released when a saline breast implant leaks is water with enough salt added to match the saltiness of the body. It is absorbed quickly, just like you drank some water, and leaves no residual. If you are stressed out about it, this might contribute to missing a period, but other reasons should be ruled out by your ob/gyn, especially if you are usually regular.
