Variable: The prognosis of cirrhosis is variable depending on the etiology, severity and presence of complications. Other underlying health factors can also play a role. Extent of cirrhosis can be classified in different ways. Staging describes the extent of scarring and fibrous tissue that have replaced the normal liver. Liver transplant is considered at this stage. Talk to your doc about who qualifies.

4: There are four stages of fibrosis (scarring) and stage 4 is cirrhosis. When you say stage 4 cirrhosis--it is a confusing term since the europeans use a different classification where stage 4 of cirrhosis means cirrhosis with signs of liver failure that is much worse than stage 4 of fibrosis. Please discuss more with your liver doctor.
