If defective: Dental fillings can last many years, but they are not as good as what nature originally made. How long they will last depends on how well you take care of your teeth, what you eat and how large the filling is. If the filling and/or tooth break, or if you get recurrent decay, these are some reasons a filling would need to be replaced.
