I don't think so: I don't believe it is. Do a study for yourself & stand on a corner & see if anyone that passes by has at least one mercury amalgam filling in their mouth. You might find that 9 out if 10 will have at least 1 of these metal fillings in their mouth. Then ask yourself how are all these people walking around appearing healthy with all those type of fillings in their mouth.

Science says no: Many studies have been done and thus far all of them say no. Mercury that is by itself is dangerous, but in amalgam the mercury is bonded to silver or copper making it very stable and safe. Amalgam has been successfully used for over 100 years, but there are other options such as composite or glass ionomer that perform very well today. Ask your dentist which material is best in your case.
