Filling: When you have a amalgam ( silver ) filling removed your dentist will give you local anesthetic (novocaine). Once you are numb they will remove the filling, and any decay that is in the tooth. Depending on how much of the tooth structure remains they may place a tooth colored filling or a porcelain crown.

A better quality: Restoration. Sadly, many insurance companies in their infinite wisdom will still only cover amalgams or downgrade composites to amalgams because it is cheaper for them. But a composite restoration is a far more conservative and far more aesthetic restoration than any amalgam could ever hope to be. If you look at any literature, composites are constantly improving -- no advancements in amalgams.

Different Methods: Different methods available. You can choose an accredited dentist, member of the iabdm or iaomt. Take a look at their web sites- www.Iabdm.Org, www.Iaomt.Org - to find dentists, with additional training in safe removal of mercury, amalgam fillings by iaomt and iabdm . Accredited members of these international academies, follow their protocols. See consumers for dental choice- www.Toxicteeth.Org.

No difference: Removal of mercury fillings is a standard procedure in the dental office. You should have them replaced w a tooth colored resin, and be able to use them right away.
