Therapy: In most cases ptsd is treated by psychologists with psychotherapy using cognitive-behavior or insight-oriented techniques. Talking about and through traumas in a safe environment over time helps. If there is concommitent depression or severe symptoms psychiatric consultation and medications are often used in combination with therapy. Some techniques such as emdr remain subject to skepticism.

With compassion: Emdr for simple ptsd. Cognitive processing therapy is the gold standard. Group therapy for people with similar types of trauma. Psychotropic medications. Psychoeducation is vital. Family therapy is often important.
