How can a benign breast tumor be removed?

Skin incision,: U/s or needle localization, excision with normal surrounding tissue. Sample sent to confirm histology; assess margins. Many are accompanied by "pre" cancers, ductal carcinoma in situ. But fibromas, cysts, adenomatous hyperplasia all are treated with excision to prove benignity.

Depends: Easily felt tumors can be surgically excised using local or general anesthetic. If too small or too deep to be felt, ultrasound or mammogram localization with needle or dye is used to guide removal. Some benign "tumors" may be cysts- and are collapsed by sucking out the fluid through a needle and syringe. After removal, benign tumors should be confirmed with pathology to rule out cancer.
