Type 1 or 2?: Management of diabetes by doctors changes based on the type of it, Insulin dependent (type1) you have to take Insulin to keep your sugars down. Also being on a low carbohydrate diet, will help progression of diabetes. If you have type 2, non-insulin dependent, then low carbohydrate diets, weight loss, and some supplements will greatly help improve and sometimes reverse your diabetes.
