Insulin resistance: Insulin resistance is the underlying pathology of most type 2 diabetics and is a common consequence of obesity. It can be diagnosed by a glucose tolerance test. Other characteristics of diabetes can be measured, such as hemoglobin a1c and fasting glucose, triglyceride, body mass index, waist circumference. Insulin resistance is also seen in polycystic ovary syndrome.
