What are the symptoms of jaundice?

Yellow skin: After the newborn period, jaundice (a yellow tint to the skin and eyes) may indicate a problem with the liver or red blood cells. Jaundice in newborns is very common but may still need to be monitored. Most newborns have a blood test done at 24 hours old to assess their risk of jaundice. If you think your baby looks a little more yellow lately, check with your pediatrician.

Yellowish skin: Jaundice is the yellowish color of the skin, a coloring that can also be seen in the eyes. The color is caused by increased levels of "bilirubin" in the body. Increased bilirubin occurs if the body cannot get rid of the normal amount of bilirubin produced inside the body each day, and/or the body is producing extra amounts of bilirubin.

Itching: Itching and yellow skin discoloration - best seen in the whites of eyes early on.

Yellow skin: Jaundice, by definition, is yellow skin. It is usually a symptom of underlying liver or biliary dysfunction.
