Variable: This would depend on many things. One can pass a gallstone and recover withing 24-48 hours. However, if the gallbladder itself is diseased, if there are more stones or sludge in the bladder, if there are stones in the common bile duct, if there has been swelling of the outlet of the duct to the intestine, you current medical problems, then one could have problems for days to weeks. Depends: Different types of gallstones develop in the gallbladder and lead to biliary colic after obstructing the cystic duct which is the draining duct of the gallbladder. These stones remain in the gallbladder and lead to recurrent attacks of biliary colic (pain) unless they are small enough to pass through the biliary system. Therefore, i suggest you get checked by a surgeon if your pain is recurrent.
