Not likely.: Melanoma has 4 main types of lesions: superficial spreading, lentigo maligna, acral lentiginous, and nodular. These lesions are pigmented with many colors, are asymmetric, have irregular surface or border(s), and vary in color. Swelling is not really part, although it may be irregular. Swelling might be from an insect bite or cut close by. See a dermatologist for exam of the mole to be sure.

Melanoma diagnosis: If a patient has a pigmented lesion in their skin it should be evaluated by a physician because this cancer can be so deadly and present in many different ways including an irregular lesion with swelling around it.
