Cold virus: Symptoms of cough in the context of runny nose and fever suggests a viral illness. The cough should improve as the cold does as well. The cough could be from post nasal drip or if it persists then asthma should be considered especially if this has occurred before. A barky cough may suggest croup which is also from a virus.
