IVF risks: There are short and long term risks. The incidence in general of having a complication is small. Short term pertain to the actual treatment and egg retrieval: ovarian hyperstimulation, injury to internal structures during the retrieval, bleeding & infection. Long term: multiple pregnancies, birth defects, possible increased risk of ovarian cancer which may be related to the underlying infertility.
